I’m enjoying it very much, I love it here.  It is my first time in Toronto and I think it’s a gorgeous city with very, very VERY nice people.

I think good.  Last night was my very, very first night dancing on a stage ever and it turned out better than I thought. I was a nervous wreck before I went on stage, but at the end of it I was very proud and very accomplished that I did it and I just felt really good about myself and I’m really excited to do it again tonight and tomorrow night.

Well, I was just wondering what you think of them and where they are going.  Do you ever think we are going to run out of stuff to parody, like will it hit the wall?

You know, it’s like a double edged sword for me because some days I’m like, “This has got to come to an end.” I mean I’m painted blue from head to toe.  Then on the other hand I’m just like, “This is awesome.”  I’m having sex painted blue, you know? It’s uncomfortable at the same time but you know it’s all fantasy.  Once you’re actually fulfilling it, you”re like, “This is kinda ridiculous, I can’t believe people get off on this.”  But it really is a double edged sword, however, I don’t think we’re going to run out of stuff to parody any time soon.

I think it’s… yeah,  I’m THE Smurfette. There are no other Smurfettes, and in the movie we made up a villain Smurfette.  We called her Sass-ette, and she was made by Gallagher or whatever, no! Gargemel and he made her up to seduce all of us Smurfs and she sure did.

Well I was curious about that since I grew up with them and I only ever remembered the one female Smurf.

How did you feel when you won the award for Batgirl?

I was very happy, I really was.  I was very honoured to win something for that role since it was my favourite thing ever.  I love that while people know me as Lexi Belle, pretty much everyone else calls me Batgirl where I am.  Like right after the movie too, everyone was like, “ Batgirl!” because no one really knew my real name.

There was no lesbian scene in that version of Batman not even a bonus section.  Why do you think that was since a lot of fans watch the parodies just for the lesbian scene and you and Tori Black are a dream pairing in anyone’s book.

We’ve been fucking fighting for that for a long time and I hear there is a rumour. I don’t know if I should say this since you’re recording.  Whatever, I hear there is a rumour for a second Batman coming out and I know I’m going to be in it and I would love for Catwoman to make her return, and while I don’t know if it’s going to happen, that has definitely been my fantasy since we shot that movie two years ago.  So Catwoman and Batgirl should go at it.

That was my fantasy too.

Everyone, EV-ER-RY-ONE has asked why it didn’t happen and I’m just like, “there is gonna be a sequel and you’re going to have to wait.”

Now, I was going through a lot of your older videos and found an old scene you did for an internet shoot and I’m pretty sure it’s for Net Video Girls. I wanted to ask you a few things about those kind of casting couch porns.

I don’t know Net Video Girls.

It was you showing up to someone’s apartment for, “glamour shots.”

Did I have short brown hair?

You had brown hair, it was in a pony tail and you were in this cute top with stars.

With stars on it, YES!  I remember that scene, that must have been the first like, month of me shooting and it was only like my fifth scene ever.  I was 18, I was very naive, very eager at the time and you could see how nervous I was in that scene.

Now those kinds of scenes and movies really only highlight the actress since there really isn’t anyone in it, so was that a really big thing for you?  Because you’re the only one on screen and you totally sold it solo while some girls get their start just getting destroyed and you almost never even see their face.

Yeah.  You know I never really looked at it that way but yeah.  I was… damn it was so long ago that scene, it was like six years ago.  I just remember I was very nervous and it got very realistic. It REALLY did because I was so new and it was casting porn and pretty much every girl that is new in the industry does casting couches. So that’s exactly what it was.

I was just about to ask about that.  I mean, how real are casting couch movies since I’m willing to bet there are some guys in an apartment in LA right now getting yelled at by a girl they tried to trick.

Yes ( laugh ). I haven’t dealt with them and people like that in a long time but I’m almost 100% sure there are real casting couches out there, and I’m pretty sure those scenes don’t get the girls very far.

However, there are good couches and bad couches. Do you think the good ones help as much as the bad ones hurt a career?

Well…….

I mean if we take a look again at your career, at when you did POV Casting Couch 11, you knocked it out of the park and that clip from an older movie with tons of other girls is still floating around thanks to you.

I think, and no offence to whoever shot them, but the few casting couch films I did were more on the … poor quality side of the business.  But I made it.  See? I broke through.

Well, of course you would.  Since they operate almost totally devoid of sets, script, or any real budget and they revolve almost totally around the actress, would you prefer to work solo or with a large cast in a larger budget production like a Batman or the other parodies?

Umm, I like to go both ways.  When I first started, it was all gonzo, you’re in and out of the set within a few hours.  It was all, “Hey, get into that skimpy outfit and show me your ass and suck this cock.”  And I miss that part of the business, the part of it since you really show what you’re all about, your sex drive is up and your performance and how you handle it, what you do and that is how you be who you are.  When you’re doing features, everything is scripted out and there is all the giant wardrobe with tons of talent around, then you gotta be in character so you get so caught up and your like, “Well they wouldn’t fuck like this,” so you second guess yourself with every movement you take and sometimes you think, “That was too Lexi Belle. I should have been more like a Smurfette or something.” But at the same time, I love being in parodies and it’s the acting part and it’s like ,“Oh yeah there is acting in porn”.  I mean, sometimes it’s not the best acting but we are having fun acting and very big about ourselves .  However, I honestly miss the gonzo part of things where you just fuck and show your talent, you look right into the camera and scream, “I”m a dirty school girl,” or something.  I miss it. I really do. Sometimes you’re on set for seventeen or eighteen hours painted blue, it’s crazy.

You did one of the, Jerk Off Encouragement videos a long time ago and these are very different from any other kind of porn out there since they rely on just the girl and her eroticism getting the guy off.  They are about twelve minutes long and I pretty much guarantee no one is making it to the end of them.

I have a lot of fan emails, twitter, and my site and I try to answer them all but I have this one specific fan who just really likes me for who I am and I’ve been chatting with him for like two years now.  I don’t know if he is telling the truth but I feel like I know him very well and this guy doesn’t watch any of my scenes or do any of that, but he loves that I have a parrot and I have a dog and a cat and just lead a normal life and try to portray that through Twitter and he is interested in me and attracted to me  just for who I am and my real self.  That really makes me feel happy, and I remember writing that and I forget there was another fan because I get a lot of people following me on twitter, just because I had that clown picture just because of that picture and they had no idea I did porn and I really like that. People realize that porn stars are real people. The release of Simpsons: The XXX Parody was announced by LFP Video and Full Spread Entertainment. In this latest parody, Marge and Homer Simpson heat things up after Homer borrows Ned Flanders’ video camera. Welcome home! You’ve tweeted on Twitter ( @SunnyLeone ) that you’re looking forward to some poutine, ketchup chips and Timbits. How’s that coming along?

Thank you! I had a Timbit this morning, I had my poutine here … somebody brought it for me. I haven’t gotten to the Smarties yet and the ketchup chips are sitting there waiting. Unfortunately I can’t eat chips and sign at the same time.

Very true. What else do you look forward to doing when you come back home? I know you’re originally from Sarina, Ontario, but what are some of things you look forward to doing when you’re back on Canadian soil.

Today I saw family, which was really nice. I went for lunch/brunch, saw their house. And just being able to be brought back to where I came from and hearing all the stories. They brought out pictures. It was a lot of fun for me.

I read that before porn, you worked in a bakery and at a Jiffy Lube. Did you ever think you’d be working with lubes and creams (again), but this time in your adult life?

(Laughs) Not at that time. I’ve never been asked that question (laughs). I’ve never thought of it that way. I don’t even think I knew what lube was at that age.

How old were you when you were working there?

I was 14 or 15 and then 16 when I was at Jiffy Lube.

When you were in the Fox reality show My Bare Lady 2: Open for Business, you were competing for success in the business world. What skills did you learn from that show that you could carry on over to yourself as a business woman working in the adult entertainment industry?

I actually learned nothing.

Really?

I learned that I never want to live in a house with three other women again (laughs). It’s really weird because I’ve run my own business for so long and that was actually one of the things I was looking forward to the most; being able to take some of these things – because they said there was going to be a business guru and somebody who was going to be amazing and knew ‘this and that’ – and then I found out he’s not that way and he wasn’t an actor, but I guess he’s done some business work. It was kind of a letdown for me to be completely honest with you. I was actually looking forward to it. I’ve never had any formal training in business; I don’t have a business/marketing degree or anything like that. I’ve always done things by the seat of my pants and picking up information, going to seminars and different adult events which cater to the Internet side of the world and not necessarily what we see here at the show. It was eye opening and it was an experience that I’ll learn from. I didn’t learn anything else, other than I can’t live with three women in one house and that unless you’re getting paid a lot of money to do a reality television show, don’t do it. Unless they’re offering you a lot of green, don’t do it.

What was it about living with three other women that was such a turn off?

You never know what kind of personalities you’re going to deal with and it’s a reality show’s job to pin people against each other, as you saw. It was myself and Veronica, and we’re all friends now, but during those first couple of weeks, they were pinning us against each other, they were saying, ‘So and so said this, what do you think of that?’ We had to do one-on-one interviews every night and they were recapping the whole day and telling us what so and so said, and what she said and what he said. Close to the end of week two, we had all put it together and I said, ‘You know what, I’ve never worked with you three girls, and I’m sure that you’re really nice and I consider myself a nice person, too, but they are just pinning us against each other and we have to stop and work together.’ We figured out their trickery.

You sure did. I read in an interview that your goal since you came into the industry was to “change one person’s view at a time.” Who’s view? Who are you referring to?

It’s the view of seeing porn as something bad and being able to talk with one person at a time … not at a show like this, obviously. Everybody here is very open and happy to be here. I’m talking about the people who don’t get out and say that they hate porn and that it’s unsafe and all of these different things. I think that if you talk to one individual at a time and explain to him/her in a very rational way and not use big, crazy, weird words, it will end up working out better for them.

Did you have a certain view of the industry before you got into it and how has it changed?

I didn’t have a view of the industry because I had no idea what it was. When I first got into the industry, I was shooting photos – I was Penthouse Pet, Penthouse Pet of the Year, I got nothing but the best of the best. Penthouse was absolutely amazing to me and took me around the world and all over the country and they just were so amazing. So I was a little spoiled. When I started doing movies, I ended up being with Vivid … again, which is at the top of the industry. Once again I was very spoiled and fortunate to work with really nice people. My expectations were exactly how I got into it … nothing but respect and the best people to work with.

Who are some of your favourite male and female actors to work with?

Male would be a guy named Ariel King and female would be either Daisy Marie, Jana Cova, Tori Black, who I just put in my big feature … I love her. She’s beautiful inside and out. I love Jenna Haze, I love them all.

Do they all have a certain quality you like?

They are all very different. Jana Cova is serious and sexy … she’s blond and has this amazing accent. Tori Black … she looks like the girl next door, but she’s not. She’s the nasty girl next door (laughs). And I love it! And I mean that in the best way possible. She turns into this other person and her acting skills are really good in the last movie I put her in. Jenna Hazes is a dirty, filthy girl.

It happened at a show like this. It was in Miami. She’d been hitting on me all weekend long, and this was the first time we ever talked to each other, met, and hung out. The last couple of years, I’ve been working on my production company and we just finished releasing our really big feature this year (Gia: Portrait of a Porn Star; featuring Sunny Leone and Tori Black). It’s doing really well and I’m really excited. Ashley Fires: How long have you been doing this?

Dee Flower: A couple of months now. I did my first interview in July.

Oh, are we videotaping? I always have a tendency when I’m getting interviewed, I start asking questions. Someone will ask me, ‘So, how are you enjoying the show?’ and I’ll be like, “How are YOU enjoying the show?’ And the interviewer always looks at me like …. (Ashley imitates the face of an interviewer who just realized the interview has taken a different turn).

No, you’re not supposed to spin the interview around. That’s okay though, I appreciate it. I like the interaction. And that’s actually my first question, how are you enjoying the Everything to do with Sex show?

You know what, I was actually a little bit disappointed because I love Toronto, and I found for the most part, everyone’s been very friendly, but they’re quiet. Everywhere else I go I’ll say, ‘Do you guys wanna see my tits?’ You know, and they’re like ‘Yes!’ And here … they just sit, they stare and they don’t say anything. So, you don’t want to see my tits? I think it’s the group mentality, they’re expecting other people to speak up. I was a little disappointed. I was like, ‘Make some noise guys!’ And it seems like the more drinky drink … the more people were drinking, the more involved they got. I’m really glad that I saw people participating on stage. The guys of course, the guys are always willing to come play. But the women are always a little reserved. That’s why I prefer the shows with alcohol. It’s like Las Vegas … they’re up there doing things that they’d never do if they were sober and not at a sex show.

Aside from Vegas and the alcohol, what other city would you say where not just the women but the crowd is more willing to let loose, and explore and experiment?

Chicago. It was the first year of that show and it was amazing how receptive everyone was. We had people basically lining up. We also had a Sybian which we broke. Do you know what a Sybian is?

Very nice! Have you had an opportunity to walk around at this show?

I usually wait close to the end of the last day. Which isn`t good … I should walk around, sneak away and take a break, but from what I hear, there`s a lot of retail. That`s what I heard.

Well, it was a natural progression (laughs). I was a dancer in Las Vegas. I was born and raised in L.A. but I was a dancer in Vegas and I met a girl who was in the industry and she did more fetish than straight porn and I was really intrigued by it. I wanted to do fetish so I actually started in fetish. I started as a submissive model. Which was great and I didn`t even shoot any video for like the first six months. This was eight years ago. So the first six months of my career it was all photos. I`m constantly grooming people. I`m like a monkey … If I see a tag, even if it`s a stranger, I`ll be like `Can I fix that?’ It`s like an OCD thing … can i tuck in your tag?

I rudely interrupted as we were talking about your career, so after the fetish discovery what happened after that?

And then I got an offer from Hustler to do two girl-girl videos, and I said yes. Little did I know that they were both in the same day. So I did the first one, and I packed up and I was leaving and I had to catch a plane to Vegas for my first AVN show and they`re like, `Where you going? You have to shoot another scene.’ And this was back in the day when they would book you back to back. Now they don`t, it`s basically one scene a day. Anyways, I`m rambling. So I was like, another? And that blew my mind. I go from not shooting porn to two scenes in one day and they weren’t like soft girl-girl. They were hard, smack around, you know, spitting. You know, the hard stuff. For personal and in session … I don`t know how to answer that … I don`t know if I should. I don`t know if I should be honest. I guess I should. Well, I`ll give you a couple of answers. One question asked to me was, ‘Where is the most outrageous place you`ve ever had sex?’ I said on a Ferris wheel, because it was. It wasn`t that successful, it wasn`t start to finish but I started. We didn’t finish because it got scary, it was rocking and people were looking. And I thought that we got stuck because it just stopped at the top for a while and I freaked out. But it was pretty exciting having sex on a Ferris wheel. I guess taking somebody outdoors and making them walk hands and feet on a leash and collar, and pissing all over him on Sunset Boulevard in the middle of the night. That`s pretty outrageous.

That is pretty outrageous. And you have done that?

Is there anything that you`d want to do that you haven`t?

One of your favourite vacation spots is Montreal and you mention on your website that the women in Montreal are easy. What`s been your impression of women in Toronto?

They seem pretty outgoing, so far. I`m actually spending a couple of days after the show and I hope to find out how easy going they really are.

Lastly, I noticed a ring on your finger. Is that of significance?

It is. No, I just wear it to keep the guys at bay.

(laughs) No. I actually don`t talk about my relationship because I feel that it might interfere. I think that the fantasy of availability is important. I also want to shoot a documentary about couples in the industry. I find that being a sex worker, it`s hard to maintain a healthy relationship with a significant other no matter who it is. Being in the industry for eight years, I`ve seen a lot of people come and go. I`ve seen a lot of marriages break up a lot of long-term relationships break up and it breaks my heart. A lot of these people are my friends, and you know them as a couple and they split up. I absolutely, without a doubt, think that being in the adult industry is a single woman`s career. I`m lucky that I have an amazing man who supports me, but I can see how and why having this sort of career can destroy a relationship.

I take it he`s not in the industry?

He is. He`s not a performer, he used to perform with me but not anymore. He got sick of that (laughs). The reason why it works is he`s a voyeur and I`m an exhibitionist. So we feed into each other that way. It`s all about communication. I love to watch him also with another woman so we`re kind of like pseudo  swingers, but we`re not like lifestyle swingers. I think that`s why it works. He`s in the industry, but he`s more behind the scenes.

So he knows what goes on … as opposed to going home to the average Joe and explaining how your day went?

Right. Or when one of them is not in the industry, there`s a breeding ground for jealousy and resentment and all of that. I know a couple, one of them is not in the industry, and i know a couple that are both performers. Which is also kind of tricky because, what happens if you`re fucking all day and you just get home and you want to fuck again? You`re so revved up, you`re so horny and you just gotta have it. ‘I want you inside of me, or I gotta have you with your mouth on my pussy.’ But other times, you have those days where you`re like, `Don`t even touch me, don`t even look at me, I`m sore, I`m tired … not going to happen.’ Let`s say it`s a female, and she works a lot, and her boyfriend is not in the industry, and she`s getting fucked raw every single day for a week, and his feelings are hurt because she`s not having sex with him. That happens all the time. And when you have two performers, there`s always going to be one who wants to have sex and one that doesn`t. And fighting over sex is just the worst thing. We’re coming to the end of 2010. How would you describe the kind of year you had?

Humbling, exciting … I feel blessed. It’s been a great year. My book ‘Sinner Takes All,’ was released this year and this was a really big milestone for me. I’ve had a couple of them in my career, but it was great to write a novel. That was really a big highlight for me this year.

I read that you wrote the book because your fans wanted it. Why a book versus maintaining a blog or using another social media tool?

One, it was cathartic for me. It took an entire year for me to write. I co-wrote it with my friend Carrie Borzillo. I did it for me and the fans. Gotham Books came to me and said, ‘We’d love to hear your story and I’m sure everyone else would.’ The thing about a public figure, whether it’s an adult actress or politician, people really don’t know their story. I love hearing, ‘I’m your biggest fan,’ but they didn’t know I was divorced this year. Well, if you’re my biggest fan, you’d know everything, but that’s not necessarily true because there’s a lot of stuff that’s out there so I just decided to talk about everything. It’s free therapy … let’s just say that.

You starred in an Indonesian film, ‘Moaning of Virgin Ghost,’ (Rinitihan Kuntilanak Perawan) which was playing in seven theatres in Jakarta. What was your role?

The movie actually was loosely based on another movie that came out in America called ‘Jennifer’s Body,’ that starred Megan Fox. I play the lead character.  I’m basically a girl that’s possessed. I go to a party one night with a bunch of guys and get killed and sacrificed and I take my revenge and kill them. It was really cool. I’ve never done a horror movie before so I got to do all the killing with the fake blood and it was just fun to film an entire movie. Doing it overseas was just great. I had never been to Indonesia, so that was really nice.

How did working on that set differ from what you’ve been used to in the past?

You know, it’s funny because for one, it was a foreign film so the entire crew spoke Indonesian so there was a lot lost in translation. I was the only American actress. I own my own company Teravision and I’ve had it since 2003. There will be three new Tera Patrick movies coming out this year from Teravision and my partner Vivid. My sets are actually very small. I have a very small crew that I’ve had for the entire 10 years I’ve been in the industry. My camera man, Ralph Parfait, and I have shot together for so many years. I’ve had the same editor, the same makeup artist; it’s really like a family.

Is it true that you originally refused the role because you were scared to film there?

No, I never refused the role, it was just back and forth at whether we were going to shoot in Indonesia or whether we were going to shoot in America because during the time of the production it was Ramadan and I believe the story was another actress had tried to film in Indonesia the year before, a Japanese adult-film actress, and they actually denied her entry into the country. They were worried that I would get there and they wouldn’t let me into the country. I hear now that they are having a big Tera Patrick protest party in Indonesia for the movie. Yay, publicity! (laughs)

Whatever happened to the Las Vegas show ‘Tera Patrick is Sexy?’

I still own the show, I actually have just taken it on the road. I just performed in Finland and the show is my own now. I decided to not do it in Vegas because I didn’t want to live in Vegas. I figured, I’m international so let’s just take it bigger. I’m supposed to take the show to Australia and New Zealand next summer.

Are you finished with porn? What’s the story?

No, I have movies coming out this year with Teravision so …

Well, you created this buzz in 2008 that you were looking at getting out of the industry within the next two years.

I shot all of my movies from 2004 to 2006 so what people are seeing was shot a couple of years ago, so I haven’t actually shot since 2006. I was never retired or quitting it was just everything I shot was from before. So people are like ‘wait, you have that tattoo … we’re smarter than you think.’

Is there someone you wanted to work with but just haven’t had the opportunity?

Yes, Christain Bale, sign me up! Christian Bale, I’ll pay you whatever you want. Boy girl scene. I’ll do all the work. It will be like the Truman Show, you don’t even have to be aware that you’re even getting filmed. In the industry, I’ve always wanted to work with Catalina Cruz, girl wise and guy wise I’ve always wanted to work with Rocco. Rocco and I never got to work together because of our contracts … which is a good thing because he’s completely crazy and I’m completely … you know, so it would be pretty explosive if we got together.

To me, part of the great thing of being in the industry, especially as a woman today, is there are so many opportunities available. I mean, I’ve built an empire. It’s nice to get paid for sex and now I love my body and know my body so much more now as a woman than I did when I first started.

You’re known as the most successful porn star in the industry. What has been the motivation for your success?

I love what I do and I like looking at new ventures, new opportunities. I don’t push my politics on anyone but I just got to say what Larry Flint said, “It’s just sex. Everyone just needs to relax.” I think it’s great that in this country you can make a living off fucking. Spread the good word, if you will. I’ve been working a long time and I love looking into the camera and being the object of people’s affection.

You’ve hit a lot of different mainstream projects – a music video for Everlast, voiceovers for animated series, a character in Backyard Wrestling 2. What haven’t you done that you’d like to do?

Aqua Teen Hunger Force was one of my favourite projects. I am not only immortalized as a cartoon but I’m immortalized on all fours in a bikini throughout the whole cartoon, so it’s pretty hot. It’s like I said, everyone’s a fan. I met Seth McFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, I love Adam Corolla, I do his show a lot and I just love talking to people. So I remember Seth and I having a debate about soda pop. It’s very intriguing because I meet many incredible people through my line of work who are fans, and it’s nice because we are fans of each other.

No discussion of creating a character of you on the Family Guy?

You know, it’s funny because work just never comes up. I was at Fashion Week one year and Kane West asked me for a picture. I’ve never been star struck but my favourite show was Law and Order so I got to meet J.K. Simmons and I was like (Tera pretends to faint).

Didn’t you have a thing for CNN’s Anderson Cooper?

Ohhhh I still do. He’s hot. I love a man in a suit.

You have an ‘Ask Tera’ section on your website TeraPatrick.com . What is the strangest question you were ever asked?

I can’t recall off the top of my head, but I did get a thank you recently from a man who met me the very first year I was in the industry and he said I signed his plant. He had bought a potted plant. I do remember that, but I don’t remember him specifically. He said I signed his plant and that it’s thriving and it’s a very big plant (laughs). I’ve signed babies … like I said, everybody fucks, everybody watches porn, and everybody loves something about someone.

Is there question that is off limits, one that you won’t answer?

Religion. No one even in my house is allowed to discuss that. It gets ugly. I love my fans and I am just so happy that I can keep on working. I get to go out on stage, take my clothes off and people cheer. It’s great. It’s a very humbling thing to work in our industry and be appreciated.

It has been announced that Tanya has been nominated for a 2011 AVN MILF/Cougar Performer of the Year Award. MILF/Cougar Performer of the Year Award recognizes the stand-out body of work from a woman in that genre.
