Ashley Fires: How long have you been doing this?

Dee Flower: A couple of months now. I did my first interview in July.

Oh, are we videotaping? I always have a tendency when I’m getting interviewed, I start asking questions. Someone will ask me, ‘So, how are you enjoying the show?’ and I’ll be like, “How are YOU enjoying the show?’ And the interviewer always looks at me like …. (Ashley imitates the face of an interviewer who just realized the interview has taken a different turn).

No, you’re not supposed to spin the interview around. That’s okay though, I appreciate it. I like the interaction. And that’s actually my first question, how are you enjoying the Everything to do with Sex show?

You know what, I was actually a little bit disappointed because I love Toronto, and I found for the most part, everyone’s been very friendly, but they’re quiet. Everywhere else I go I’ll say, ‘Do you guys wanna see my tits?’ You know, and they’re like ‘Yes!’ And here … they just sit, they stare and they don’t say anything. So, you don’t want to see my tits? I think it’s the group mentality, they’re expecting other people to speak up. I was a little disappointed. I was like, ‘Make some noise guys!’ And it seems like the more drinky drink … the more people were drinking, the more involved they got. I’m really glad that I saw people participating on stage. The guys of course, the guys are always willing to come play. But the women are always a little reserved. That’s why I prefer the shows with alcohol. It’s like Las Vegas … they’re up there doing things that they’d never do if they were sober and not at a sex show.

Aside from Vegas and the alcohol, what other city would you say where not just the women but the crowd is more willing to let loose, and explore and experiment?

Chicago. It was the first year of that show and it was amazing how receptive everyone was. We had people basically lining up. We also had a Sybian which we broke. Do you know what a Sybian is?

Yes.

Ya, so the girls would come in and ride the Sybian.

Very nice! Have you had an opportunity to walk around at this show?

I usually wait close to the end of the last day. Which isn`t good … I should walk around, sneak away and take a break, but from what I hear, there`s a lot of retail. That`s what I heard.

Yes! So tell me, how did you start your career?

Well, it was a natural progression (laughs). I was a dancer in Las Vegas. I was born and raised in L.A. but I was a dancer in Vegas and I met a girl who was in the industry and she did more fetish than straight porn and I was really intrigued by it. I wanted to do fetish so I actually started in fetish. I started as a submissive model. Which was great and I didn`t even shoot any video for like the first six months. This was eight years ago. So the first six months of my career it was all photos. And then I remember my first video … that was a big deal, it was a crossover, but I discovered a lot of my own personal fetishes in doing them professionally on camera.

What kind did you discover?

I have all kinds. People always ask me what my favourite one is and I`m always stumped … I`m like, Ì wish I can give you one. If I had to, having my feet worshiped would probably be my favourite. Yes, I would know because I have naturally curly hair, but I straighten it.

Oh, you do, what do you use, a flat iron?

I do.

I`m constantly grooming people. I`m like a monkey … If I see a tag, even if it`s a stranger, I`ll be like `Can I fix that?’ It`s like an OCD thing … can i tuck in your tag?

I rudely interrupted as we were talking about your career, so after the fetish discovery what happened after that?

And then I got an offer from Hustler to do two girl-girl videos, and I said yes. Little did I know that they were both in the same day. So I did the first one, and I packed up and I was leaving and I had to catch a plane to Vegas for my first AVN show and they`re like, `Where you going? You have to shoot another scene.’ And this was back in the day when they would book you back to back. Now they don`t, it`s basically one scene a day. Anyways, I`m rambling. So I was like, another? And that blew my mind. I go from not shooting porn to two scenes in one day and they weren’t like soft girl-girl. They were hard, smack around, you know, spitting. You know, the hard stuff. I like it both though … I like hard stuff and I like smooth, sensuous soft. But I started out doing girl-girl and I did girl-girl straight for about six years. Two years ago, I started doing boy-girl, but only on my website and for my friends (laughs). So if I do it for another company, it`s somebody I know. It`s somebody who has asked me personally, ‘Hey will you do a boy-girl scene?’ All and all I probably have four boy-girl scenes out there that you can find, but the rest of them are on my website. And I don`t like to work with male talent.

Why`s that?

Because they`re …. I don`t know, I like to find average guys. I like to find real guys that … whoever`s watching my videos jerking off, they can relate to that guy. I do update it, I do try to come up with creative stuff, and I just spent a week in Montreal shooting for my website. One whole week and I shot five days in a row and I`m still exhausted. And where do those ideas come from? Because I was on your website and clips like The Tax Bitch, Medical Testing … do you sit there and say ‘Okay, what am i going to do next?’ or do you get some input from your fans and listen to what they want you to do?

I definitely like to hear from my fans. I used to do polls, like ‘Would you rather see me do this? Or would you rather see me do this?’ I like the interaction from the fans. I have few fans who`ve been fans of mine the whole time I`ve been in the industry. I get scripts … full on pages of scripts sent to me and I love it. I take what i want from it. This year was supposed to be my anal year and I kinda dropped the bomb on that. So next year, I`m going to do a lot of anal on my website because I do a lot of anal for other production companies, and so they`re like ‘If you`re doing it for other companies, why aren`t you doing it on your website?’ It`s a really involved process and it takes  a while.

So 2011 will be the year of the anal?

The year of the anal and double penetration. I`m going to finally do that. And do two guys at once.

I read on your website that you like watching yourself. You know what, not many people do.

Are you critical of yourself or do you watch your scenes and think ì could have done it better this way?

Yes. They watch and see where they could have improved. I’m not very hyper critical, but sometimes I`m like, `What the hell did I just say?’ I say weird things like out of nowhere. Does it turn you on too, watching yourself?

Yes. For personal and in session … I don`t know how to answer that … I don`t know if I should. I don`t know if I should be honest. I guess I should. Well, I`ll give you a couple of answers. One question asked to me was, ‘Where is the most outrageous place you`ve ever had sex?’ I said on a Ferris wheel, because it was. It wasn`t that successful, it wasn`t start to finish but I started. We didn’t finish because it got scary, it was rocking and people were looking. And I thought that we got stuck because it just stopped at the top for a while and I freaked out. But it was pretty exciting having sex on a Ferris wheel. Scary. I`m kind of afraid of heights, so I like to test my limits and scare myself a bit.

One of your favourite vacation spots is Montreal and you mention on your website that the women in Montreal are easy. What`s been your impression of women in Toronto?

They seem pretty outgoing, so far. I`m actually spending a couple of days after the show and I hope to find out how easy going they really are.

Lastly, I noticed a ring on your finger. Is that of significance?

It is. No, I just wear it to keep the guys at bay.

(laughs) No. I actually don`t talk about my relationship because I feel that it might interfere. I think that the fantasy of availability is important. I also want to shoot a documentary about couples in the industry. I find that being a sex worker, it`s hard to maintain a healthy relationship with a significant other no matter who it is. Being in the industry for eight years, I`ve seen a lot of people come and go. I`ve seen a lot of marriages break up a lot of long-term relationships break up and it breaks my heart. A lot of these people are my friends, and you know them as a couple and they split up. I absolutely, without a doubt, think that being in the adult industry is a single woman`s career. I`m lucky that I have an amazing man who supports me, but I can see how and why having this sort of career can destroy a relationship.

I take it he`s not in the industry?

He is. He`s not a performer, he used to perform with me but not anymore. He got sick of that (laughs). The reason why it works is he`s a voyeur and I`m an exhibitionist. So we feed into each other that way. It`s all about communication. I love to watch him also with another woman so we`re kind of like pseudo  swingers, but we`re not like lifestyle swingers. I think that`s why it works. He`s in the industry, but he`s more behind the scenes.

So he knows what goes on … as opposed to going home to the average Joe and explaining how your day went?

Right. Or when one of them is not in the industry, there`s a breeding ground for jealousy and resentment and all of that. I know a couple, one of them is not in the industry, and i know a couple that are both performers. Which is also kind of tricky because, what happens if you`re fucking all day and you just get home and you want to fuck again? You`re so revved up, you`re so horny and you just gotta have it. ‘I want you inside of me, or I gotta have you with your mouth on my pussy.’ But other times, you have those days where you`re like, `Don`t even touch me, don`t even look at me, I`m sore, I`m tired … not going to happen.’ Let`s say it`s a female, and she works a lot, and her boyfriend is not in the industry, and she`s getting fucked raw every single day for a week, and his feelings are hurt because she`s not having sex with him. That happens all the time. And when you have two performers, there`s always going to be one who wants to have sex and one that doesn`t. And fighting over sex is just the worst thing. I find that the more sex I have, the more relaxed I am in general. I didn`t have sex last night, and I`m dying right now … I`m fidgety, I`m all weird. I need it.
